In order to spare the boy the terrors of an inquisition, the man frequently admits to whatever charges are brought, he winds up with his life in turmoil, and frequently with a prison term to serve. It is paradoxical that the man who loves a boy so much is viciously persecuted for that love, whereas the malicious, uncaring parents, other relatives, and even legal "guardians", those who inflict the vast majority of abuse on children, often escape with little or no censure.
