It is possible that men who prey on boys for sexual purposes may fall into two distinct categories.
The first, and the most dangerous, is one who is simply and completely mentally unbalanced, he has little or no love for boys, nor any concern for the physical and emotional pain he may inflict upon them. He has only a consuming desire to satisfy his sexual desires by any possible means. This person is to the boylover as the rapist is to the heterosexual.
The second is the man who has a love and concern for boys, but, due to frustration, loss, or some other personal emotional trauma, is driven to try to obtain by seduction, and perhaps even force, the companionship and intimacy that he has been unable to find otherwise.
It should be pointed out in each case that although the authorities often inflate the extent of these kinds of contacts, both types are in fact quite rare. Several studies have confirmed this.
